Every Image Size You Need for Meta Ads — Feed, Story, Reels, Carousel

To run one Meta (Facebook + Instagram) campaign properly, you typically need at least four ratios: 1:1, 4:5, 9:16 and 1.91:1. The key placements are below; per-placement detail (file formats, size limits, design rules) lives in the Meta section of the ad size guide.
Core Meta placement sizes (per current guides)
| Placement | Recommended | Ratio | Safe zone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Feed | 1440×1440 | 1:1 | — |
| FB·IG Feed portrait | 1440×1800 / 1080×1350 | 4:5 | IG: exclude 64px all sides |
| Link ads (landscape) | 1200×628 | 1.91:1 | — |
| Stories (FB·IG) | 1440×2560 | 9:16 | exclude top 250px, bottom 340px |
| Reels (FB·IG) | 1440×2560 | 9:16 | exclude top 358px, bottom 896px, sides 86px |
| Carousel (FB·IG) | 1080×1080 | 1:1 | 2–10 cards, identical ratio required |
Two easy-to-miss details: carousel cards get force-cropped if their ratios differ even slightly (Instagram enforces down to 1%), and Stories and Reels have different safe zones despite the same 9:16 — Reels is far tighter (pixel detail here).
Operations checklist
- Make the four-ratio set (1:1 · 4:5 · 9:16 · 1.91:1) your standard deliverable — it covers Advantage+ automatic placements.
- Build 9:16 to the Reels safe zone and it's automatically safe for Stories.
- Keep text under ~20% of the image area — heavy text tends to reduce reach.
- Fan out ratios from one master automatically instead of by hand (bulk resize guide).
How ImageFactory solves this
Upload one master, select your Meta placements, and the table above — dimensions, safe zones, carousel rules — is applied per official guide, automatically. The other platforms (Google, Kakao, Naver…) work the same way across 1,400+ placements. Since the library updates when platform guides change, using it beats bookmarking this table.
